Station House Officer (SHO) Amir Shahzad, the police officer responsible for filing the First Information Report (FIR) regarding the assassination attempt on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan in November last year, died of a heart attack on Sunday.
At the time of his death, Shahzad was serving as the SHO of Saddar Wazirabad police station.
The FIR was filed at the City Wazirabad police station based on the statement of the now-deceased SHO. The incident occurred on November 3, 2022, when an attacker targeted a PTI reception camp at Allahwala Chowk during the party’s long march. Imran Khan, a former prime minister, was inside a container at the time, along with several other PTI leaders.
The attack resulted in the death of one party worker and injuries to six other individuals, including Imran Khan. The motive behind the assassination attempt remains unclear, and it is unknown if any arrests have been made in connection with the case since then.
The sudden death of SHO Amir Shahzad, who played a crucial role in filing the FIR, shocked those involved in the investigation. His passing is likely to impact the progress of the case, which has already seen a significant amount of attention due to the high-profile nature of the targeted individual.
