The menace of dacoits in Shikarpur shows no signs of abating as local authorities face challenges in curbing these crimes.
Dacoits has shared a distressing video featuring a kidnapped jail police officer, Feroz Brohi, and his father, Sahil Brohi, who have been in captivity for 13 days. In the video, Feroz revealed that they are experiencing violence.
The incident prompted Feroz, based in Mughalpura, to urgently request the intervention of Sindh’s IG to secure their freedom. Authorities confirmed that Feroz and his father were kidnapped 13 days ago. The kidnappers have demanded a Rs. 7 million ransom for their release.
In response to the growing crime wave, police and Rangers are conducting intensified joint operations throughout Sindh’s interior. Authorities recently detained two suspects, Shahid and Shoaib, in Kashmore’s Awan area. They were found with pistols, ammunition, and over Rs. 400,000, likely from a robbery at the Ghanta Ghar market.
The extent of dacoity in Kandhkot and Kashmore is concerning, with about 400 abductions reported last year. Dacoits recently killed two civilians. Despite 250 operations by Sindh’s government and police, criminal groups remain active in the Kachho area.
Gangs like Teghani, Jagirani, Shar, Bhiu, and Bhangwar continue their illegal activities in upper Sindh’s Kandhkot and Kashmore. This conflict has resulted in 11 police fatalities and as many injuries. Meanwhile, police efforts have eliminated 23 dacoits and led to 160 arrests.
Police report that 35 to 40 dacoits are active in the Larkana and Sukkur divisions, with over 200 involved in dacoity. Monthly, 20 to 30 people are freed after ransoms are paid in these areas. This situation highlights the significant challenges law enforcement faces in addressing the dacoity issue in the region.
