Police arrested Sheikh Rasheed, former interior minister and leader of the Awami Muslim League, on Tuesday. This followed the revocation of his bail in connection with the May 9 riots case.
Rasheed faced the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) for bail confirmation in 14 cases related to the May 9 riots. He secured bail in thirteen cases but was denied in the New Town police station case. Consequently, he was detained by the police at the court.
Rasheed, implicated in orchestrating vandalism and attacking a sensitive site on May 9, made headlines after the former prime minister’s arrest. Despite his current situation, Rasheed announced his intention to run in the elections from jail.
Previously, Rasheed publicly denounced the May 9 riots and described the PTI chief as ‘stubborn.’ During a recent interview, he revealed spending 40 days in ‘Chilla,’ a period of seclusion, allowing him time for reflection. He asserted that no harm occurred during this time.
