Sindh’s Information Minister, Sharjeel Inam Memon, recently addressed important issues in the province. He focused on solutions for the Sindh energy crisis, which include modernising vehicle registration and increasing power production. His statements aim to counter criticism and promote development.
Memon dismissed the criticism of Sindh’s new number plate scheme, labelling it as baseless propaganda. The initiative aims to update vehicle registration and reduce crimes such as car theft. The minister explained that the scheme enhances the registration process. He emphasised that the Sindh government is attentive to genuine public concerns but will not allow political issues to hinder welfare efforts.
Sindh has significant potential to address Pakistan’s energy crisis. Memon stated that the province is rich in resources; however, federal regulations have hindered growth. If Sindh were granted more autonomy, it could significantly enhance its energy production. He emphasised the need for discussions among experts, leaders, and various groups to strategise on the prudent use of Sindh’s energy reserves. Sustainable solutions are essential for future progress.
Over the last six years, Thar Coal has supplied 30 million tonnes to power plants, generating 31 gigawatts of electricity. This is sufficient to power nearly three million homes. Memon stated that Thar Coal could supply energy to Pakistan for many years to come.

A new 105-kilometre railway is being constructed to connect Thar coal to local and global markets. Sindh also leads in green energy initiatives. The wind corridor is operational, and solar projects are progressing.
The Nooriabad Power Project provides 100 megawatts to Karachi. The government has allocated Rs2.5 billion for solar initiatives. It also covers electricity bills for Thar residents up to 200 units.
The plans include two solar parks in Karachi, as well as one in Manjhand for Hyderabad. Additionally, there are parks planned for Sukkur and Larkana. Memon urged the federal government to eliminate any obstacles and provide support for Sindh’s solar and wind initiatives to meet national energy demands.
