Sharjeel Memon, a senior minister from Sindh and leader of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), claimed that the government has sufficient support to enact legislative amendments at its discretion.
Speaking to the media, Memon underscored the impending constitutional amendment and expressed confidence that Maulana Fazlur Rehman, a venerable political figure, would support the initiative.
Memon stated that the government is well-prepared to introduce amendments, having secured the necessary parliamentary numbers. He noted Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s significant influence and interest in contributing to the constitutional amendments, emphasizing the importance of incorporating any proposals he might have. “The amendment is indeed necessary,” Memon affirmed, highlighting the collaborative spirit needed for such legislative changes.
Additionally, Memon criticized the founder of PTI, who is currently incarcerated, for allegedly trying to destabilize Pakistan and undermine the judiciary. He referred to past accusations by Maulana Fazlur Rehman, who labelled Imran Khan as an agent of Israel, a claim that has been echoed in various publications and statements.
Reflecting on the history of constitutional reforms, Memon pointed out that initially, the PML-N did not support the 18th Amendment. However, their stance has evolved, recognizing the importance of such amendments.
He stressed that the PPP aims to foster consensus and prevent political factions from monopolizing the national agenda. “We are committed to moving forward together and will be sharing our proposals with PML-N, as our draft differs from theirs,” Memon concluded, illustrating the PPP’s commitment to collaborative and inclusive political processes.
