Former Inspector General of Prisons, Shahid Saleem Baig, has returned to his Lahore residence after an unexplained two-day absence.
A Shahid Saleem Baig staffer confirmed that Baig had not been home and that his mobile phone had remained off during this period. Additionally, Baig’s wife, a government employee, was absent from her office for two days.
Previously, reports had emerged that Baig was taken into custody two days ago, though the reasons for his alleged detention remain unclear. Baig had served in the prison department for five years and retired before Prime Minister Imran Khan was imprisoned.

Meanwhile, Malik Mohammad Akram, the transferred deputy superintendent of Central Jail Rawalpindi, along with two other officials, was also taken in for interrogation.
Notably, in 2022, the Punjab government had prematurely announced the retirement of Baig. The official notification from the Punjab Services & General Administration Department stated that Baig would retire from government service on October 20, 2022, upon reaching the age of superannuation.
