The Supreme Court Pakistan heard petitions against Lahore High Court’s (LHC) verdict in Orange Line Train Project case toady (Thursday).
The petitions in Supreme Court of Pakistan were filed by the Punjab government, Lahore Development Authority, the Punjab Mass Transit Authority and the National Engineering Services Pakistan (Nespak) against the high court’s suspension of the construction work within 200 feet of 11 heritage sites.
A five-member larger bench, headed by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali, heard the appeals and directed all the parties to submit names of impartial technical experts to ascertain possible damages to the archeological sites.
During the hearing Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali remarked “Bad governance is prevailing in the country in the name of good governance. There is autocracy in Pakistan in the name of democracy. The system is being ridiculed while people-elected representatives are involved in it. The masses must rise up against it,”
