A tragic incident unfolded in the Swat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on Tuesday when a “firearms assault” on a school van resulted in the death of one female student and injuries to five others, according to local police.
Details suggest that a police constable allegedly initiated the assault on the van, which was transporting young female students shortly after they had left a private school. The incident occurred in a suburb of Mingora city.
Following the attack, all the students were promptly taken to Saidu Sharif Hospital. The authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
District Police Officer (DPO) Shafiullah Khan Gandapur stated that the constable involved in the assault had been apprehended, and the weapon allegedly used in the crime had been seized.
The DPO condemned the incident and added that the mental health of the constable would be assessed as part of the ongoing investigation. “We are not certain about the psychological well-being of the constable on school duty here, and this will be explored through the investigation,” he said. He assured that further details would be released to the media soon.
