Saudi Arabia has announced the nationalization of 25 per cent of engineering professions, effective this Sunday.
Local media report that the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development initiated the policy in cooperation with the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing. The new regulation mandates that private sector businesses employing five or more individuals in these roles comply.
This measure forms part of the ministries’ efforts to provide more rewarding employment opportunities for Saudi nationals across the Kingdom.
The Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing will oversee the enforcement and monitoring of this initiative to enhance labour market participation.
The ministry will manage the policy’s execution to align with the labour market’s demands and the specialized nature of engineering professions.
Furthermore, the Human Resources and Social Development system will offer incentives and support programs to private firms, encouraging them to hire Saudi citizens.
Support includes locating and recruiting qualified staff, offering necessary education and training, aiding in job retention, and granting priority access to all nationalization support programs from the Human Resources Development Fund (HADAF) and the system overall.
The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development has published a procedural guide detailing the nationalization process, relevant professions, and required quotas on its website.
The ministry emphasizes that institutions must adhere to these requirements to avoid legal consequences for non-compliance.
