Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodriguez can live in Saudi Arabia despite the ban on unmarried couples.
The government is reportedly poised to modify its marital regulations to allow Cristiano Ronaldo to live with his partner. The 37-year-old wore an Al-Nassr shirt for his Tuesday debut, which drew a large crowd.
Saudi lawyers told EFE that the government will ‘turn a blind eye’ to the star pair.
“Saudi officials no longer interfere, even though the law prohibits cohabitation without marriage,” said another lawyer.
Rodriguez, the mother of two of Ronaldo’s children, will still need a visa to live in the Gulf country despite the exemptions. Marriage does not provide legal citizenship.
Al-Nassr postponed Thursday’s Saudi Pro League match against Al Ta’ee due to weather. Ronaldo won’t play. Al-Nassr has chosen to delay Ronaldo’s debut since he must serve a two-game suspension from England.
Ronaldo’s £173 million contract with Al Nassr makes him the world’s highest-paid footballer.
