Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has formally supported Saudi Arabia’s bid to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup.
A delegation headed by Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki bin Faisal, Minister of Sport and President of the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee, and Yasser Al Misehal, President of the Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF), will officially submit the bid to FIFA in Paris.
During this announcement, Prince Abdulaziz highlighted that the Crown Prince’s endorsement strengthens the Kingdom’s position as a burgeoning global sports hub amidst an era of profound growth and transformation.
“We are committed to hosting an exceptional FIFA World Cup, accommodating 48 teams in one country for the first time,” Prince Abdulaziz stated. He further elaborated, “The Crown Prince’s direct oversight of Saudi Arabia’s bid underscores his dedication to advancing Saudi sports in alignment with Vision 2030, developing athletes who can compete at the highest levels, and showcasing our nation’s vibrant culture and capacity to host major global sporting events.”
The journey towards hosting the FIFA World Cup 2034 began on October 4, 2023, when Saudi Arabia declared its candidacy. This move was solidified by submitting an official letter of intent to FIFA and launching the bid’s brand identity, encapsulated by the slogan “Growing. Together.”
FIFA will decide on the host nation for the FIFA World Cup 2034 in December during a General Assembly meeting.
