The International Cricket Council (ICC) cleared Saeed Ajmal’s bowling action.
According to the ICC’s press release on its official website, the off-spinner’s bowling action is legal, and he can now resume bowling in international cricket.
However, according to the rules, Ajmal cannot be included in the ICC World Cup 2015 squad.
At the retests, it was revealed that the number of elbow extensions in both the off-spinners bowling actions for all their deliveries was within the 15-degree level of tolerance permitted under the ICC regulations for reviewing bowlers reported with suspected illegal bowling actions.
Ajmal’s bowling action had been reported during the Galle Test in August 2014. It was deemed illegal after an assessment a month later, which found his elbow extension was at 42 degrees, well over the permissible limit of 15 degrees.
On January 24, 2015, Ajmal was put through an official ICC bowling action test at the apex cricket body’s accredited laboratory under the supervision of two technical experts from Dubai.
