In an unexpected incident in Karachi’s North Nazimabad No.4 area, a rickshaw driver absconded with bridal dowry items valued at over Rs100,000.
The theft occurred after the victim’s family, who were preparing for the sister’s wedding later this month, visited Liaquatabad Market to buy dowry essentials. Following their shopping, they hired a rickshaw to transport the items, including costly kitchenware, to their residence in Orangi Town. The goods were loaded into the vehicle, with some secured to the roof.
The journey took a dramatic turn upon reaching Nazimabad No. 4, where the driver abruptly halted the rickshaw, forced the women out, and fled with the dowry items.
The distressed family reported the incident at the Nazimabad police station. However, they received only a handwritten complaint rather than a formal First Information Report (FIR).
Security footage from the market captured the suspect wearing a traditional shalwar kameez, apparently trying to stay unnoticed by security cameras. This led to suspicions that his presence at the market might have been part of a premeditated scheme.
The family has called on the police to urgently address the situation, capture the thief, and retrieve the stolen dowry items. They emphasize the need for prompt and effective law enforcement response to prevent such incidents in the future.
