The Punjab government has decided to reinstate board examinations for Grade 8 students, marking the end of several years without these standardised tests. The decision was made during a meeting chaired by Punjab’s Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat, who confirmed that officials would finalise all implementation details within the next 30 days.
Alongside the return of Grade 8 board examinations, the provincial education department is introducing comprehensive reforms to the assessment system for younger students. Minister Hayat announced that students in Grades 5 through 7 will now undergo structured internal assessments designed to measure both learning progress and teaching effectiveness. These new evaluation methods, currently in development, are expected to be ready within one month.

The meeting maintained the existing suspension of Grade 5 scholarship examinations while establishing alternative assessment mechanisms to ensure consistent academic monitoring. This balanced approach aims to reduce testing pressure on younger students while maintaining rigorous evaluation standards for older grades.
In a parallel modernisation effort, the education department is transforming traditional textbooks into video formats for Matric and Grade 11 students. This innovative initiative seeks to complement conventional learning materials with visual educational resources. Minister Hayat has personally overseen preparations for the upcoming academic session, issuing directives to ensure timely printing and thorough verification of all textbooks.
