The Punjab Police have banned officers from sharing personal opinions on social media platforms. This rule was detailed in a letter titled ‘Social Media Policy.’ It was sent to all Unit Heads, including the CCPO Lahore, RPOs, CPOs, and District Police Chiefs across the province.
The directive demands strict adherence to social media guidelines. It states that no officer may participate in social media activities in uniform without approval from their CPO, DPO, or Unit Head. It also prohibits police personnel from posting personal, political, or religious views on these platforms.

The policy further bars private individuals from using police vehicles or offices for social media activities. This measure aims to prevent the misuse of police resources.
Additionally, the letter places personal responsibility on RPOs and Unit Heads. They must enforce this policy in their areas and oversee their subordinates’ social media behaviour to ensure compliance.
Contrastingly, the City Traffic Police Rawalpindi actively uses social media to interact with the public. They share videos featuring public feedback and images of the Chief Minister of Punjab, showcasing their work and engaging the community.
