Imran Khan announced Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governments will dissolve their parliament on December 23.
Imran announced in a televised speech with Punjab and KP chief ministers.
Imran praised the two provincial chief ministers for cooperating with his party and said he consulted PTI’s attorneys about the action, adding that the Constitution doesn’t allow elections to be delayed beyond 90 days after an assembly’s dissolution.
Imran declared last month that his party would abandon the provincial assemblies to leave the “corrupt political system.”
PML-N and PPP leaders, the ruling PDM’s core forces, opposed dissolving assemblies. Later, the PML-N said it would run if the PTI dissolved the two assemblies.
Imran elaborated on the PTI’s plan after dissolving the assemblies: “Then we’ll prepare for elections, and our 130 National Assembly seats, we’ll ask the speaker to accept our resignations instead of picking a handful.”
Imran said disappointment is like “running away from our responsibilities to society.” He added the government should be “taught a lesson through elections” and “beaten so badly that these thieves are forgotten.”
He stated the country will “rise up” when “difficult decisions” were made to “restructure institutions and establish justice”
Imran said a government with a new mandate and national support could grow.
Imran began his speech by saying the country needed “new and fair elections”
Imran began his speech by lamenting the country’s economic predicament and praising his government.
Skilled people and professionals are departing the country in droves, he said.
Who changed the regime? he added, referring to his government’s dismissal earlier this year.
Imran said unemployment, inflation, and foreign confidence in the country had decreased, drying off investments.
“Our debts mount.” We increased the country’s riches to solve the problem. (Government) has no plan.”
