Punjab’s Acting Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi called a key meeting to devise anti-smog and pollution strategies in Lahore, as announced officially on Monday.
The suggested plans involve shutting schools, markets, factories, and offices citywide on Wednesdays.
The meeting will see provincial ministers, the chief secretary, the police chief, environmental specialists, and other relevant officials. Decisions will follow a group review of the smog conditions.
Post-meeting, information and environment ministers will brief the press on anti-smog resolutions.
Previously, the government contemplated COVID-19-like curbs to address Lahore’s intense smog. Insiders indicate possible citywide closures on Wednesdays and reduced government staffing with weekend spot-checks. Traffic largely causes smog, with factory emissions contributing minimally in Lahore. Penalties for non-compliant factories and potential closures were recommended.
