The Punjab government has declared its intention to take legal measures against Imran Khan following his recent communications from jail, including an article sent to Daily Mail, a British newspaper.
In the article, Khan voiced concerns over threats to his life, suggesting a potential risk of assassination. Punjab’s Minister of Information, Uzma Bukhari, criticized Khan, claiming he is trying to portray himself as a figure akin to Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Bukhari noted that this narrative is consistently echoed by visitors who meet with Khan in jail.
The provincial government plans to initiate a formal complaint and integrate various statements made by Khan into a constitutional petition. This petition aims to restrict his party, Tehreek-e-Insaf, ‘s activities by potentially imposing a ban.
A cabinet meeting recently convened, at which the Ministry of Interior’s committee prepared a special report. The committee reviewed Khan’s statements and articles and received approval. Following this, the government is expected to file the constitutional petition in the upcoming days, marking a significant escalation in the legal actions against the former Prime Minister.
