The Punjab Department of Education has issued a code of conduct for providing free textbooks to students from nursery to third grade.
According to the guidelines, students from nursery to third grade will receive 100% of the books for free.
Additionally, students in grades four and five will receive 80% of the books for free, while students from sixth to tenth grade will be provided 50% of the books. The distribution of books to students will be according to enrollment.
A letter issued by the Secretary of School Education has directed all Chief Executives of District Education Authorities in the province to provide books to students according to the policy, and the schools will provide the remaining books as per policy.
The notification states that teachers in public schools have been instructed to order students promoted to the next grade to return their old books so that middle and high school students can also be ensured 100% provision of books.
The Department of Education has also instructed school heads to establish Old Book Banks within schools where old books will be collected so that students can be provided books from the Book Bank as needed.
