The Punjab government has declared that all government schools in the province will close on Saturdays to lessen teachers’ workloads and foster their professional growth.
Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat announced the decision, stating that Saturdays will now be dedicated to teacher training.
Minister Hayat explained that this measure is part of a wider effort to ease the demands on educators in public schools. He noted government school teachers’ significant workload and affirmed that this new policy would reduce their burden.
Effective this week, this schedule adjustment allows teachers to develop professionally without disrupting regular classroom duties.
Furthermore, Minister Hayat mentioned plans to extend daily school hours. The aim is to ensure the effective use of weekdays for teaching and maintain high educational standards.
