To shield schoolchildren from the intense summer heat, the Punjab government has adjusted school timings.
According to a notification by the provincial education department, schools in Punjab will now operate from 7:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. On Fridays, classes will end earlier at 11:45 a.m.
For double-shift schools, the new schedule will be from 7:45 am to 12:15 pm for the morning shift and from 12:45 pm to 5:15 pm for the afternoon shift.
This adjustment is part of the authorities’ routine practice of altering school hours based on weather conditions and security concerns to enhance student safety and convenience.
Previously, in response to a severe cold wave, winter timings were enforced from February to April 15, shifting school hours to start later and end earlier, particularly distinguishing between boys’ and girls’ schools.
Boys’ schools operated from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., while girls’ schools had sessions from 8:15 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. On Fridays, boys’ schools closed at 12:15 p.m. and girls’ at 12:00 p.m. The double-shift schools maintained a consistent schedule throughout this period.
