The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced the schedule for its intra-party elections, which are set for March 3. This move follows instructions from party founder Imran Khan for immediate elections, aiming for democratic engagement within the party.
Party members are invited to submit nomination papers on February 23 and 24, with scrutiny scheduled for February 25. The outcome of this scrutiny will be announced by February 27, ensuring transparency and fairness in the nomination process.
Polling will occur on March 3, with booths available in all provincial secretariats and the central office, underscoring the party’s commitment to widespread member participation.
PTI has formally notified the election commission of this initiative, adhering to regulatory requirements and demonstrating organizational transparency.
However, Akbar S Babar, a former party leader, intends to contest this decision before the election commission, arguing against the current leadership’s legitimacy.
Ali Muhammad Khan, a PTI leader, communicated Imran Khan’s directive for prompt intra-party elections during a press briefing in Islamabad. He mentioned Barrister Gohar Ali Khan’s role in organizing the elections, emphasizing the founder’s vision for a politics devoid of vendettas, inspired by Nelson Mandela’s reconciliatory approach.
