The National Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Chairmanship has sparked a dispute among senior PTI figures. The party’s political committee voted to replace Sher Afzal Khan Marwat with Sheikh Waqas Akram.

According to a party insider, the PTI’s political committee convened in Islamabad to discuss the nomination. The majority favoured replacing Marwat with Waqas, with nine of the 19-member committee voting for Waqas and seven for Marwat.

I am not aware that I have been nominated for the Chairman of Public Accounts Committee, Sher Afzal Marwat is our star.!!

Sher Afzal Marwat confirmed the report, expressing bitterness and anger. He accused PTI figures, particularly Omar Ayub and Shibli Faraz, of conspiring against him due to his popularity.

When attempted to reach Ayub for comment, but there was no response. Raoof Hasan, the party’s principal spokesperson, declined to comment, stating that matters were referred to the committee for discussion and then decided by Imran Khan.

The rise of Sher Afzal Marwat, particularly during Imran Khan’s absence, has attracted attention. PTI’s chairman, Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, announced Marwat’s nomination as PAC chairman on April 20.

Marwat questioned why the political committee reversed Imran Khan’s decision. He felt excluded from the decision-making process, as neither he nor Asad Qaiser was informed.

He hinted at a “concerted conspiracy” against him by the PTI establishment, citing his brother’s removal from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cabinet without a chance to resign honourably.

Marwat expressed his determination to discuss the matter with Khan, stating that he would bring all the facts to his attention. He asserted his intent to decide his political future after the meeting.
