The internal rift within Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has come to the forefront following the revocation of Sher Afzal Marwat’s party membership. This development has exposed apparent divisions among the PTI leadership, highlighting a conflict between PTI’s acting Secretary Information, Shoaib Shaheen, and PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar.
Shoaib Shaheen confirmed that the party’s founding chairman ordered Marwat’s expulsion. In contrast, Barrister Gohar, who has publicly supported Marwat, claimed ignorance about any such decision and emphasized that as chairman, he would not endorse Marwat’s expulsion.
Amid these conflicting stances, sources suggest that Barrister Gohar plans to visit Adiala Jail to meet with the founding chairman to discuss the matter, signalling his strong backing for Marwat.
The party’s decision to terminate Marwat’s membership was formally announced through a notification issued by PTI’s Additional General Secretary, Firdous Shamim Naqvi. The notification outlined serious policy violations by Marwat, including non-compliance with party directives and damaging the party’s public image.
Despite the official stance, Barrister Gohar dismissed the notification of Marwat’s expulsion as unfounded in an interview with Express News, asserting his comprehensive awareness and control over such matters within the party.
Marwat, for his part, has responded to his expulsion on social media, expressing respect for the party’s decision but reaffirming his loyalty to Imran Khan and his intent to clarify his position directly to the party leader, hinting at potential misinformation influencing the decision against him.
