PTI, JI file contempt petition against ECP, govt

Pakistan’s ruling party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), have filed contempt petitions against the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and the federal government for failing to conduct local government (LG) elections in Islamabad. The Islamabad High Court (IHC) had previously ordered the LG elections to be held on December 31st, but the ECP failed to follow through on the court order.

The PTI and JI have filed a contempt of court petition against the ECP and federal government for failing to organize the LG elections in Islamabad, citing a violation of the court order. The PTI spokesperson believes the ECP should be held responsible for not complying with the IHC’s order.

Ali Nawaz Awan, PTI leader, has consulted with the legal team and filed the contempt plea. The IHC has scheduled a hearing for Saturday morning to consider the petitions.

In response, the ECP and the federal government have filed an intra-court appeal against the IHC’s decision, seeking a delay of 10 to 15 days to prepare for the LG elections. However, the IHC has rejected PTI and JI’s previous challenge to postpone the elections, with Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani ruling that postponing the LG elections violated citizens’ rights.

This issue has been a point of contention between the federal government and opposition parties in Pakistan, with many criticizing the government for handling local governance issues. As a result, the LG elections in Islamabad have become a high-stakes issue, with various parties jockeying for positions and seeking to hold the government accountable.

Overall, this news highlights the ongoing political turmoil in Pakistan, with opposition parties pushing back against the government’s attempts to delay or postpone elections. By providing a detailed analysis of the situation, this article can help readers better understand the political landscape in Pakistan and stay informed on important developments in the country.
