The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has officially refuted claims about the potential closure of ATMs in Pakistan due to issues related to Long Distance International (LDI) operators’ licenses.
Recent media reports have suggested that the non-renewal of LDI licenses might disrupt mobile and internet services, affecting ATM operations nationwide. The PTA clarified that these reports are baseless and inaccurate.
The PTA confirmed that LDI networks remain fully operational without disruption. Consequently, no impact is expected on the IT or financial sectors, including the networks that support ATM services. They emphasized that the expiration of LDI licenses has not caused any suspension or closure of operations within these networks.

This announcement follows similar misinformation addressed by OneLink, which also countered claims circulated on social media suggesting that cyberattacks would shut down ATMs in Pakistan for several days.
The PTA’s statement aims to reassure the public and stakeholders that ATMs and related financial services will continue functioning normally, dispelling fears and correcting the spread of false information in the media.
