According to royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams, Prince William has assumed a more significant role in the monarchy and British public life. This comes as King Charles and Kate Middleton receive cancer treatment.
Fitzwilliams spoke to Newsweek following Prince William’s pivotal participation in the D-Day services. He described this as a natural evolution for William, who is shaping up as a statesman.
“William has always been seen as an exemplary diplomat,” Fitzwilliams remarked. He highlighted William’s unexpected visit to British troops near the Ukraine border last year and his call for lasting peace in Gaza in February.
“He excels as a public speaker,” Fitzwilliams noted, praising William’s speech during the 80th D-Day anniversary in Canada and his representation of King Charles at the international event on Omaha Beach. This moment was significant as William stood with 24 world leaders while his father underwent treatment.
Fitzwilliams concluded by recognizing William’s challenges as his father and wife battle health issues. Yet, he affirmed that the monarchy’s future was secure under Prince William’s impending kingship.
