President Asif Ali Zardari officially signed the 26th constitutional amendment into law, shortly after which the gazette notification was issued.
Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had advised President Zardari to ratify the 26th Constitutional Amendment Bill, which had passed both houses of Parliament with a two-thirds majority. After the bill’s approval, the prime minister signed this advice, highlighting the amendment’s importance.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif lauded the Parliament’s unanimous support for the 26th constitutional amendment, describing it as a “shining example of national consensus.” Speaking after its passage, he celebrated this achievement as a “great day” for Pakistan, stating that it realizes the unfinished goals of the Charter of Democracy initiated by Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif.
The prime minister expressed confidence that the era of dismissing elected prime ministers has ended, showcasing Parliament’s strength and unity. He acknowledged Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari for his pivotal role in the amendment’s success and thanked Maulana Fazlur Rehman for his contributions to the nation’s welfare.
Shehbaz noted that by approving this amendment, political parties have strongly committed to prioritizing the nation’s future above individual interests. He affirmed that these constitutional changes will facilitate easier access to justice and secure Pakistan’s future.
