In a recent meeting with President Asif Ali Zardari, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leadership in Punjab, she strongly objected to the lack of cooperation from federal and provincial governments.
Sources of the developments shared that the PPP leadership feels deprived of its rightful entitlements and support. The PPP representatives from Punjab voiced concerns that the issues plaguing their constituencies remain unaddressed. “We received votes too, and we must satisfy our constituents,” the leaders asserted to President Zardari.
President Zardari responded with assurances to address the challenges faced by the PPP leadership in Punjab.
He critiqued the governance abilities of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), declaring, “The PML-N is unable to govern effectively. I have now taken an active stance, and we will initiate development projects from Islamabad to Lahore. No political party can outperform the PPP in governance.”
President Zardari acknowledged the PPP’s acumen in forming governments and effecting their dissolution. Nonetheless, he urged party members to seek resolution through dialogue and cooperative efforts.
Ali Haider Gilani, a prominent PPP leader, criticized the treatment of South Punjab residents, particularly taking issue with the Punjab government’s dismantling of the South Punjab Secretariat established by the previous administration. “The current government has dismissed all secretaries from the South Punjab Secretariat,” Gilani noted, adding that managing Punjab as if it were a viceregal territory is unacceptable.
