President Asif Ali Zardari urged collaboration among all stakeholders to navigate the country’s current crisis and foster national prosperity. He voiced this call during a joint session of parliament, which convened after the February 8 general elections, despite protests by PTI-backed SIC lawmakers.
President Zardari thanked parliamentarians and provincial assembly members for re-electing him in his address. “As we commence this parliamentary year, I wish to outline my vision for our future, heavily influenced by our past decisions,” he stated. Zardari highlighted his pivotal decisions that had historical impacts.
This session, initiated under Articles 54(1) and 56(3) of the Constitution, marked President Zardari’s seventh parliamentary address, continuing his leadership since 2008. Prominent attendees included PPP leaders Bilawal and Aseefa Bhutto, as well as members of the National Assembly and Senate.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also attended. Moreover, President Zardari scheduled another National Assembly session for the following day at 10:30 am.
Originally planned for April 16, the session was postponed to today, marking the start of the new parliamentary year after recent elections. Despite the elections, former President Arif Alvi could not convene a session due to pending Senate elections.
The National Assembly Secretariat invited notable figures, including the Chief Justice of Pakistan, provincial governors, chief ministers, and military leaders, to this session.
