President Asif Ali Zardari has advocated for the rehabilitation and integration of willing dacoits from the Katcha areas into society to help them become productive citizens.
During a security meeting in Sukkur, he discussed the law and order situation in Sindh’s Katcha areas. President Zardari emphasized rehabilitating all but the most hardened criminals and advocating decisive action against those involved in serious crimes.
To uplift the socio-economic status of the Katcha regions, he prioritized improving local infrastructure, including roads, health, and education.
President Zardari proposed convening a Qaumi Jirga with tribal chiefs to foster dialogue with the local population to enhance security and reduce crime. He stressed the importance of modernizing the police force through better training, equipment, and logistical support to effectively address security challenges.
President Zardari recommended encouraging women to join the Sindh police force. He directed the acceleration of upgrades to the Sakrand Police Commando School and establishing a police Cadet College. Students from this college would be primed for recruitment into the Sindh police.
The president praised the efforts of the Sindh Government, Police, and Rangers in reducing crime and bolstering the province’s security.
The meeting included briefings on the declining crime rates in Sindh, particularly in Karachi and the Katcha areas, credited to effective policing and strategic measures by the police and Rangers. Inspector General Sindh Police, Ghulam Nabi Memon, reported a significant reduction in dacoit activities and the absence of highway-related crimes over the past two months.
Targeted operations and installing smart cameras have played crucial roles in curbing crime and facilitating the capture of criminals. The meeting also covered the intensified campaign against drug peddlers and the use of smart cameras at provincial entry points, as directed by President Zardari.
