Iran has alleged that President Masoud Pezeshkian sustained injuries during an Israeli assassination attempt modeled after the operation that killed Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah. According to IRGC-affiliated Fars News Agency, the June 16 airstrike targeted a Tehran building hosting Iran’s Supreme National Security Council meeting.
The reported strike employed six precision missiles aimed at the building’s entry and exit points, a tactic designed to trap occupants by sealing escape routes and disrupting ventilation systems. President Pezeshkian suffered leg injuries while Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Judiciary Chief Mohseni Ejei, and other senior officials narrowly escaped through a pre-prepared emergency hatch after power failure engulfed the lower floors.

This incident occurred during heightened Middle East tensions following Israel’s 12-day military campaign against Iranian targets. That operation eliminated several top Iranian military leaders, including IRGC Commander Hossein Salami and Armed Forces Chief Mohammad Bagheri. Unconfirmed reports suggest Israel also contemplated targeting Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei during the conflict.

The alleged assassination attempt marks a significant escalation in covert operations between the regional rivals. Analysts note the Nasrallah-style methodology signals Israel’s continued precision strike capabilities against high-value targets in enemy territory. Tehran has vowed retaliation while security forces work to identify potential infiltrators who may have enabled the precise targeting.
