Punjab, particularly its capital, Lahore, is experiencing a significant increase in pneumonia cases. This alarming situation has led to the tragic loss of six children in just one day.
Impact on Children and Health Department’s Response
The health department reported that out of 140 pneumonia cases in Punjab, 60 were from Lahore alone. January saw 780 cases in Lahore’s government hospitals and 4900 cases across Punjab. The Children’s Hospital in Lahore admitted 60 children suffering from pneumonia.
The Punjab Health Department has issued specific SOPs to combat this health crisis. They are urging parents to ensure the completion of their children’s immunization courses. Additionally, they advise minimizing unnecessary outdoor exposure for children. This guidance aims to prevent further spread and impact of pneumonia among children in the region.
