A major blow for Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N), a party’s central leader Pir Muhammad Aminul Hasnat Shah, join the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Saturday.
Hasnat announced her decision to join PTI at a press conference while flanking PTI Senior Vice-President Fawad Chaudhry, Vice-Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi, and PTI Secretary General Asad Umar.
Hasnat gave a somewhat cryptic response at the conference in Sargodha when explaining his decision to join PTI: “As time goes on, new information comes to light.”
He thanked senior PTI leaders, especially Qureshi, whom he called the “leader” of the family while praising him. Hasnat also prayed that he would continue to have a good political experience. At a press conference, Quershi responded to the flattery by praising Hasnat for his experience as a statesman and spiritual leader.
The PTI director said he has a “long spiritual relationship” with Hasnath, and his joining PTI will strengthen the party in Sargodha. Moreover, Choudhury also spoke at the venue and thanked Hasnat for his decision. The former minister alleged that Hasnat and his family had a lot of influence in Sargodha, Rawalpindi province and other parts of the country. Choudhury and Omar expressed great admiration for PTI Chairman Imran Khan and hailed him as a “true Muslim” and the ultimate devotee. “No one is more loyal than Han.”
They also reiterated that it is very important for the party that the PML-N central leader joins the PTI. This development comes shortly after the dissolution of the Punjab Parliament. With by-elections to be held within 90 days of dissolution, adding a strong PML-N member who is also a religious leader could boost PTI’s by-election bid. Earlier, Home Minister Rana Sanaula, while talking to a private TV channel on January 13 evening, said that PML-N is ready to conduct polls in Punjab within 90 days and claimed that the party will be successful in the provincial assembly elections.
It should be noted that Hasnat was elected to the National Assembly (MNA) from Sargodha Constituency NA-64 and served as Prime Minister under Nawaz Sharif and Shahid Khaqan Abbasi. During this period, he worked as a cabinet member.
