Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed relevant authorities on Monday to route 50 per cent of all public sector inland cargo via Gwadar Port.
PM Shehbaz He issued this directive during a meeting in Islamabad that focused on reviewing Chinese investment following a visit by a Chinese experts’ delegation from July 30 to August 6, 2024.
During the meeting, representatives from various ministries reported on their discussions with the Chinese delegation, highlighting significant advancements in cooperation and investment across multiple sectors, including trade, energy, agriculture, IT, communication, and infrastructure.
Participants learned that the Chinese delegation had interacted with leading figures from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, discussing technology transfers, the elimination of non-trade barriers, and methods to enhance Pakistan’s exports. Plans were made to organize sectoral roadshows in Chinese cities to promote Pakistani products further.

The assembly also discussed the involvement of Chinese expertise in upgrading sectors like electric vehicles and electro-medical devices and the recent progress of a Chinese auto spare parts company in establishing a plant in Pakistan.
Prime Minister Sharif emphasized the need for equitable opportunities for students from all provinces in upcoming training programs and directed the formation of a committee led by Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Reform Ahsan Iqbal. This committee will ensure a transparent selection process for Pakistani students and researchers participating in agricultural training in China.
The meeting included Federal Ministers for Investment, Economic Affairs, Industry, Commerce, Energy, Maritime Affairs, and other senior government officials, underscoring the government’s commitment to these initiatives.
