Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in New York on Monday for a five-day official visit to the United States, where he will attend the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
During his address to the UNGA on Friday, PM Shehbaz plans to discuss Pakistan’s views on various global and regional concerns, including Kashmir and Palestine. He will underscore Pakistan’s commitment to multilateralism and its support for the United Nations’ role in promoting worldwide peace, security, and prosperity.
In addition to his UNGA address, the Prime Minister is set to participate in several high-level discussions. These include the UN Security Council’s debate on ‘Leadership for Peace’ and meetings concerning the global threat of rising sea levels.
PM Shehbaz will also engage in bilateral discussions with international leaders and meet with significant figures such as UN Secretary-General António Guterres, World Bank President Ajay Banga, and IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva.
Over 130 world leaders will attend the session.
PM Shehbaz will attend a reception hosted by UN Secretary-General Guterres today for world leaders. He will also engage informally with various country heads and participate in the inaugural event of the UNGA 2024 session.
The Prime Minister will also meet Mohamed Muizzu, President of the Maldives.
Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch announced that Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar and senior officials would accompany PM Shehbaz.
