Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has issued a directive to its pilots and cabin crew, advising against fasting during Ramadan flights.
PIA’s flight safety department issued the notice, citing safety concerns. While fasting is permissible, it poses risks to flight safety by potentially reducing alertness and decision-making capabilities.
The memo pointed out the possible effects of fasting, such as hypoglycemia and dehydration, on crew performance. It stressed the importance of maintaining safety standards, given the crew’s responsibility towards passengers and ground staff.
PIA emphasized that the directive aims to safeguard all involved and aligns with corporate safety guidelines. A spokesperson confirmed the airline’s commitment to enforcing this policy.
