The government of Pakistan raised petrol and diesel prices by Rs35 per liter on Sunday.
Finance Minister Ishaq Dar announced an increase in petrol and diesel prices; and confirmed that kerosene and light diesel oil prices raised by Rs18 per liter.
The finance minister also rejected reports of petroleum shortages and termed “artificial shortage” being created.
“Ample fuel is available, and under normal circumstances, there would be no reason for such shortages to occur,” he said.
“On social media, it was reported that [fuel prices] were to be jacked up by Rs47-80, which unfortunately became an incentive for them [hoarders],” he added, “because of this, we have received reports of artificial shortages in the market.”
Dar announced on January 15 that fuel prices would stay the same for the second half of the month until January 31.
Petroleum will now cost Rs249.80 per liter after today’s increase, diesel prices will now cost Rs262.80 per liter, kerosene oil will cost Rs189.83 per liter, and light diesel oil will cost Rs187 per liter.
