Peshawar police launched a mobile app to encounter and reduce mobile theft in the province.
The Android app will verify IMEI numbers. Users can search and find a number while buying a mobile phone, and the app will verify if the phone is stolen or legal.
The app will contain the IMEI numbers of all stolen mobile devices within the city’s 34 police stations’ jurisdiction.
According to CCPO Peshawar, Aijaz Khan said that entering a stolen phone’s IMEI into the app will alert buyers and the police to its presence. To maximize its effectiveness, police have asked mobile sellers to install the app on their phones.
After a rise in mobile theft in the provincial capital, the app launched. Mobile theft has increased due to a higher exchange rate and taxes and a decline in law enforcement. However, the Peshwar police hope tracking phones sold will make tracing stolen devices easier.
