The Islamabad High Court is reviewing an audio leak case involving Bushra Bibi, the former first lady and wife of ex-Prime Minister Imran Khan. In this context, the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has formally requested that Justice Babar Sattar recuse himself from overseeing the case.
The case implicates audio leaks between Bushra Bibi and Najam Saqib and is scheduled for a hearing on April 29. Justice Babar Sattar will preside over it. The petition underscores the complex legal and ethical considerations surrounding the case, highlighting the need for impartiality in adjudication.
PEMRA has submitted a miscellaneous application to the Islamabad High Court, citing a potential conflict of interest due to Justice Sattar’s involvement in a similar case previously adjudicated by another bench.
The application by PEMRA highlighted that despite numerous court appearances by the Chairman of PEMRA, the case has not progressed. They argue that Justice Sattar’s recusal is necessary to meet the standards of justice.
Furthermore, PEMRA suggests that the bench which previously handled a similar application should oversee this case to maintain consistency in the proceedings.
The petition also notes the involvement of the son of former Chief Justice Saqib Nisar in related legal issues, adding another layer of complexity to the case.
