Former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Shaharyar Khan is likely to return to power after he was named in the new Governing Board (GB), replacing Iqbal Umar who was one of the two special nominees for the top post.
The government issued a notification on Monday, effectively ending outgoing chairman Najam Sethi’s Management Committee (MC) and replacing it with the GB which comprises a chairman, four members of regions and departments and special nominees. Last year’s top four departmental and regional first-class teams will have representation in the new board.
Article 2 (d) of the notification issued read, “Two members nominated by the patron in his discretion are (i) Najam Sethi (ii) Shaharyar Khan.”
The seemingly endless game of musical chairs between chairman Zaka Ashraf and Najam Sethi for the PCB crown was put to rest by the Supreme Court.
