Patrick Mahomes Sr., the father of Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes II, was arrested for DUI in Texas, marking at least his third such arrest.
The 53-year-old faced custody late Saturday, TMZ reported that his bond would be set subsequently. This is not Mahomes Sr.’s first encounter with DUI allegations.
In 2019, he received a 40-day jail sentence for a similar charge, completed over weekends, complying with the sentence terms.
Mahomes Sr. arrest comes as his son prepares for a Super Bowl LVIII showdown with the San Francisco 49ers, placing the NFL sensation at the forefront of a mega sports event.
Mahomes Sr. also caught media attention recently, humorously discussing his seating arrangement for the AFC Conference Championship game, mentioning he hoped not to sit next to Taylor Swift.
In a conversation with WFAN Sports Radio’s Evan Roberts, he expressed doubts about sharing a suite with Swift, citing the separate arrangements of Travis Kelce and his son Patrick.
Given her financial status, he quipped about Swift’s ability to afford her suite. His attendance at the Super Bowl on February 11 to support his son is in question due to these legal issues.
The Super Bowl LVIII, featuring the Kansas City Chiefs versus the San Francisco 49ers, is set for a 17:30 Central kickoff on Sunday at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
