Tariq Bugti, President of the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF), disclosed that Pakistan’s hockey team relied on borrowed tickets for their recent journey to the Asian Champions Trophy in China.
During an interview, Bugti highlighted the overlooked state of hockey in Pakistan and called on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to allocate a special grant to the sport. He lamented that hockey is not accorded the recognition and respect it merits despite being the national sport.
Bugti remained optimistic about the team’s performance at the Asian Champions Trophy but recognized the formidable challenge posed by India, which ranks significantly higher than Pakistan. He also announced plans to visit Karachi next week to reinforce PHF’s governance and regain control over the Edhi Hockey Stadium.
A letter has been prepared for the Inspector General of Sindh to assist in reclaiming authority over the stadium. Additionally, the PHF Congress has sanctioned strict measures against individuals attempting to establish parallel federations, ensuring the preservation of official governance in the sport.
