Pakistan’s overall vegetable exports grew by 57% in value during the first four months of the current fiscal year (July to October).
The major exports are the brisk potato shipments, which offset a decline in onion exports due to crop destruction in Sindh and Balochistan.
In July-October, Pakistan exported 378,826 vegetables for $107 million, up from 199,119 tonnes worth $68 million in 4MFY22.
Despite poor market prices, exporters sent large vegetable supplies. Despite a rise in exports, local vegetable prices fell to $284 per tonne in 4MFY23 from $342 in the same period last year.
In FY22, vegetable exports of 937,203 tonnes earned $310m, a 1.39pc and 3% reduction from FY21’s 950,369 tonnes.
The All Pakistan Fruits and Vegetable Exporters, Importers and Merchants Association said potatoes and onions said that A record potato crop countered decreased onion exports. floods in Sindh and Balochistan have ravaged onion fields, limiting bulk sales to several nations, he said.
