Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has established a committee to develop a plan for the Dasu-Chilas Safe City project, which aims to provide foolproof security for Chinese nationals.
During a meeting in Islamabad, Naqvi instructed the committee to devise a comprehensive plan within fifteen days. The committee includes the Inspector General of Police Islamabad, the RPO Hazara, and representatives from WAPDA.
Naqvi clarified that the Safe City project aims to implement more than surveillance cameras. It intends to incorporate modern technology and artificial intelligence, similar to systems used in Islamabad and Lahore.
He affirmed that the Safe City project will enhance surveillance and security across the area. The Interior Minister stressed that protecting Chinese nationals involved in Pakistan’s development is a critical responsibility. He assured that all necessary efforts would be made to ensure their safety.
Recently, a tragic incident highlighted the urgency of this project. Five Chinese engineers and their Pakistani driver were killed in a terrorist attack in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Shangla district. When their bus was targeted, They travelled from Islamabad to a hydroelectric dam construction site in Dasu.
The District Inspector General (DIG) of Malakand reported that a suicide bomber struck their convoy with an explosives-laden vehicle. This attack underscored the vital need for enhanced security measures for foreign nationals working in Pakistan.
