Over the past five years, Pakistan Railways has penalized more than 97 officials on corruption charges as part of its comprehensive efforts to curb malpractices.
An official from the Ministry informed APP that several measures are being implemented to reduce corruption within Pakistan Railways. These measures include the introduction of ticket vending machines and online ticket reservations to prevent black marketing.
The official also noted that Pakistan Railways has formed a dedicated task team to monitor any irregularities and verify staff attendance within the organization.
“To enforce compliance, our Special Ticket Examiners (STEs) and officers conduct daily ticketless campaigns across divisions to identify and penalize fare evaders,” the official explained.
Additionally, pension payments have shifted to an online banking system, streamlining the process for pensioners and removing ghost pensioners from the department’s records.
“All auctions are transparently conducted through a designated committee, with payments received via CDR and verified by the concerned Divisional Accounts Officers (DAO),” he added.
The official highlighted that E-Kacheri and Khuli Kacheri sessions are held monthly to address grievances from staff, pensioners, and the public. Vigilance offices have also been established across the system to oversee corruption control and address public and railway staff complaints.
“Regular performance review meetings are held to ensure timely resolution of disciplinary cases involving employees,” he said.
Furthermore, he mentioned that focal persons from all departments have been appointed to swiftly address complaints reported through the Prime Minister’s Performance Delivery Unit (PMDU).
