On Friday, the Pakistani government mandated biometric verification at all airports to strengthen border security.
The Interior Ministry has instructed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to install biometric machines at international immigration counters promptly. Travellers will undergo verification before boarding their flights.
This initiative aims to prevent wanted suspects and absconders from crossing the country’s borders. Ministry officials highlighted that biometric verification will facilitate the effective screening of passengers and align Pakistan’s security systems with international standards.

In related developments, experts from France recently visited airports in Islamabad, Karachi, and Lahore to oversee the installation of E-gates, which are designed to streamline boarding processes. Travellers can use these gates to obtain boarding cards by scanning their passports and tickets, thus bypassing traditional queues.
The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) noted that E-gates utilize data from the biometric chip embedded in passengers’ passports. This system allows for biometric authentication using facial, fingerprint, and iris recognition. Upon successful verification, the gates automatically open, enhancing the convenience of international passenger travel.
