The government has proposed a five-year extension for the Chief Election Commissioner’s term. As part of this plan, preparations are underway to reappoint Sikandar Sultan Raja as Chief Election Commissioner after his current term concludes on January 26, 2025.
As senior journalist Sanaullah Khan noted, if this extension is approved, Sikandar Sultan Raja will preside over the next electoral cycle. Additionally, a significant deadline has been set for October 15.
Senior journalist Iftikhar Shirazi reported that the government is urged to secure the positions of Qazi Faiz Isa and Sikandar Sultan Raja through constitutional amendments by this date. Failure to do so could result in political repercussions for several prominent figures, including Shahbaz Sharif, Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz, and Asif Zardari, necessitating their departure from office.
