The federal government has declared November 9 a public holiday across Pakistan to celebrate Iqbal Day, honouring the legendary poet and philosopher Allama Iqbal.
An official notification from the cabinet division confirms the nationwide observance of this holiday.
Pakistan annually commemorates Allama Muhammad Iqbal’s birth on November 9, recognizing his profound influence as the national poet and philosopher.
Born in Sialkot in 1877, Iqbal excelled in his early education and graduated from Government College, Lahore, in 1897. He earned his Master’s Degree in 1899 and taught history, philosophy, and English at Lahore’s Oriental College.
Iqbal played a pivotal role in conceptualizing Pakistan, using his poetry to galvanize the Muslim youth of the sub-continent in their quest for independence and a separate nation.
Sadly, Iqbal passed away in 1938, not living to see the establishment of Pakistan.
Iqbal Day commemorates his birthday and reminds us of his lasting contributions to Pakistani culture, literature, and national identity, continually inspiring pride and unity among generations.
