On Tuesday, Pakistan criticized India’s action to label the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Freedom League and four factions of the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples League as “unlawful associations.”
The extension of the ban on the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (Yasin Malik faction) for an additional five years was also condemned, as Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch stated in a press release.
According to the spokesperson, India’s efforts to suppress opposition in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) violate international human rights, humanitarian laws, and democratic standards.
Pakistan called on the Indian government to remove restrictions on the banned Kashmiri organizations, free all political detainees, including Yasin Malik, and adhere to UN Security Council resolutions regarding Jammu and Kashmir.
With these latest bans, the total number of illegal Kashmiri political organizations in IIOJK has risen to 14.
The crackdown extends to party affiliates, notably pushing for the death penalty against Yasin Malik, who received a life sentence in 2022.
The spokesperson emphasized that such repressive measures would not quell the Kashmiri desire for self-determination, a right guaranteed by relevant UN Security Council Resolutions.
